NASHPORT, Ohio -- Defending champion Concord leads a tightly-packed field at the Mountain East Conference Championship at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio. Eight teams are within 14 strokes of the lead in the 54-hole tournament.
The Mountain Lions shot a first round score of 313, followed by Shepherd (317), Notre Dame (318), Fairmont State (320), West Liberty (321), Charleston (325), Urbana (326) and Wheeling Jesuit (327). West Virginia Wesleyan is in ninth with a score of 332, with UVa-Wise (349), Glenville State (362) and West Virginia State (390) rounding out the field.
Concord's Sam Berry and West Liberty's Matt Iceton led all players with a 73. Wheeling Jesuit's Eric Dargis is one back in third, followed by Thomas Frazier in fourth (75) and Hunter Woods of Fairmont State and Robert Fleming of Shepherd tied for fifth after shooting 76.
The second round continues tomorrow with play scheduled to begin at 7:50 a.m.
