Notre Dame earned a goal in the first half, withstood a stout Wheeling Jesuit charge late in the half, and then put the game away with a pair of goals in the second half to defeat the Cardinals, 3-0, in the Mountain East Conference Tournament Semifinals.
The Falcons will advance to the finals on Saturday to take on Charleston. UC was the only team to defeat Notre Dame this season
After a slow opening minutes, Adam Mitchell put NDC up after getting on the end of a cross from Kyle Hayes. Wheeling Jesuit pressured the Falcons late in the first half creating some chances, but missed just wide on their chances.
Renan Troccoli doubled the advantage for Notre Dame with a tally in the 64th minute finishing a cross from Ryan Ware. The Falcons put the game away with a rocket from Alexander Parkes from 35-yards out just over the WJU keper.
Wheeling Jesuit finishes the season 7-7-4.
Charleston 2, Urbana 0 | Box Score
Charleston broke free from Urbana with a pair of second half goals to defeat the Blue Knights, 2-0, on Thursday night in the semifinals of the MEC Tournament.
The Golden Eagles (11-5-1) will now face Notre Dame for the MEC Tournament championship on Saturday at 4 p.m.
After a scoreless first half that was played predominantly in the midfield, Charleston opened the scoring in the 49th minute with a goal from Michael Hagarty. Hagarty received the pass from Renan Ramos, turned and fired the shot past the Urbana keeper. The Golden Eagles double their lead in the 61st minute when Lewis Osborne blasted a shot from 30 yards out to record the score.
